Driverless cars are coming to Charlotte, North Carolina, raising safety concerns ahead of the arrival of the company's robo-taxis. A Waymo self-driving car recently blocked the path of an emergency vehicle responding to a mass shooting in Austin, Texas, causing a delay, but the company plans to learn from the incident. The National Transportation Safety Board has released reports about two incidents involving Waymo vehicles in January, one in Texas illegally passing a stopped school bus while picking up children, another in California where a Waymo car hit a child who ran across a street in a school zone. The company has reported that its cars are 10 times less likely to be involved in a serious crash than human drivers and 12 times more likely to hit a pedestrian.
