New York City restaurants are typically closing due to the high cost of real estate and limited options for food, making it difficult for the market to maintain. In March 2026, notable restaurants including Corkbuzz, Postcard and Bar56, and Las Vegas Mexican restaurant Pink Taco are set to close. The last Hooters restaurant in New York closed its doors in late February. The gay restaurant Elmo Restaurant, opened in 2001 by Bob Pontarelli, will serve its last meal on March 13 after the building where it was located was sold and the new owner chose not to renew their long-running lease. The existing space at 156 Seventh Avenue will be developed into a new high-end residential project.
