NJ Transit commuters will see full rail service restored after the Portal North Bridge over the Hackensack River passed its first passenger test. The new $2.3 billion bridge was used by Gov. Mikie Sherrill and top Amtrak and state transportation officials, who praised the project on time and on budget. Commuters experienced a 53% service reduction for 30 days while the first track was installed on the new bridge was put in service. The return to regular NJ Transit and Amtrak rail schedules is expected to include a return to a faster ride over the bridge. The FlexPass rail ticket that provides 20 discounted rides will remain, which was eliminated in 2024 due to cost cutting concerns. The restoration of service will begin on Sunday and Monday, with service returning to a regular weekend schedule and a normal weekday schedule.
