The California gubernatorial race is attracting national attention due to a national debate, with Democrats seeking a new frontrunner after Eric Swalwell's collapse. However, the debate, which included both Republicans and Democrats, revealed a major problem for Democrats as all candidates are in the same "jungle" primary as they compete in a common primary in June 2. The first- and second-place finishers in the November 3 general election, regardless of party, will go on to represent either party. The two major Republican candidates are expected to split their voters evenly, each winning about 20% of the vote in the primary. If they split their vote four ways, each would win only 15%. There are still more Democrats still in the running, potentially resulting in further splitting their party's vote further. The ratings were mixed for the candidates, with Chad Bianco giving an A- and Matt Mahan giving an B- and Michael Steyer rating.
