Portraits mark Stockton and Darlington railway 200th anniversary
Published on March 14, 2026.
The portraits of individuals involved in the project, organised by Women of the World (WOW), are being displayed at railway museum Locomotion in Shildon and on display in Durham City Centre before moving to Middlesbrough Station. The exhibition is part of a year-long festival focusing on how the railways transformed the world. The head of the museum, Sarah Price, said it was "very humbling" to be recognised and hopes to inspire others. The portraits also include a campaigner for the rights of crime victims, a poet, a neurodiversity activist, and the owner of the UK's largest independent travel agency.
