Gabe Perreault, a former first-round pick and one of the most productive Rangers players since the Olympic break, was moved down to the second power-play unit when J.T. Miller returned from injured reserve. Despite the demotion, head coach Mike Sullivan insisted that it was not a demotion. Perreaut expressed his surprise at the move, citing the success of the top power-playing unit as a reason. His four-game point streak and 10 points since March 7 ranked seventh in the NHL.
