The federal government is no longer producing pennies, leaving the future of the one-cent coin uncertain. With no new pennies in production, businesses are finding cash transactions more complicated. Many business owners are pushing for new legislation to clarify the guidelines for giving cash change. The Hawaii Banker Association stated that sufficient inventory levels remain in place and banks continue to operate normally regarding penny distribution.
