The leadership of Lake County's Democratic and Republican parties is changing, with the GOP hoping to regain dominance and control it held eight years ago. State Rep. Daniel Didech, D-Buffalo Grove, was elected chair of the Lake County Democrats, replacing Lauren Beth Gash who had held the position since 2020. Dawn Abernathy of Mundelein became the new Republican Central Committee chair, replacing Keith Brin who chose not to seek reelection. Both Dideach and Abernatham aim to expand their party's control of all countywide offices in Lake County. They also plan to focus on elections for school and library boards throughout the county.
