The 15th Conference of the Parties to the Convention on the Conservation of Migratory Species (CMS) took place in Brazil, where 40 animals were granted cross-border protections under one of the UN's premier wildlife conservation treaties. The protections included animals from all over the world, from small to large, and included two species of hammerheads, the thresher shark, and several species of migratory Amazonian fish. The conference also included plans to develop plans to ensure the safe movement of freshwater fish, jaguars, and protections for migratory sharks from bycatch. These measures have previously been successful in helping to protect species that may never remain within their borders.
