Cuyahoga judicial candidates call for alternatives to prison at forum

Two candidates for Cuyahoga County judge, William Vodrey and James Gallagher, have called for increased alternatives to incarceration during a forum at Our City Church on Cleveland's East Side. The candidates called for expansion of specialty dockets, using prison as a last resort and focusing on individual risk when sentencing. The event was hosted by Building Freedom Ohio and the Felony Impacted Liberation Movement, which aim to remove barriers that prevent formerly incarcerated people from accessing housing, jobs, etc., and eliminate racial disparities in the criminal justice system.
