A Houston native and a teammate, Natalie Greene, are making national headlines at Gallaudet University, a Washington, D.C.-based university for Deaf and hard-of-hearing students. The freshman duo, known as the "Twin Towers," are redefining the playing field and bringing greater visibility to Deaf athletes in collegiate basketball. Greene, a graduate of Fort Bend ISD's Willowridge High School, was named United East Rookie of the Year and Second Team All-Conference, along with being named Offensive Player of the Week earlier in the season. Her teammate, Kayla Debrow, is fully immersed in the Deaf community and communicates through ASL. Both hope their success will encourage others to believe that DeAF athletes can compete with anyone.
