El Mirage police are searching for the shooter in a double shooting that killed 17-year-old Ashtin Evans, who was walking to a store when another teenager approached him from behind a parked car and shot him three times, according to his family. Over 100 people gathered at a vigil at Buena Vida Park to remember Evans, with his mother, Amanda Evans, urging young people to listen to their families and stay out of El Mirage. The shooting occurred about 8 p.m. on Monday night, with several 911 calls reporting shots fired near El Mirage Road on Dryfus Drive, south of Thunderbird Road. Evans' family believes that the shooter was the shooter. No arrests have been made, but police believe there is no ongoing threat to the public.
