Three license plate reader cameras were stolen near Highway 49 and Nevada Street in Auburn, California, on April 26. Two of the cameras were owned by the Auburn Police Department and the Placer County Sheriff's Office. The cameras, known as Flock cameras, are used to read license plates, identify stolen vehicles, and assist with criminal investigations. The poles where the cameras had been mounted were found empty, with the cords cut, and both cameras were later discovered in a nearby canal. The stolen cameras cost about $800 each and authorities are working to replace them.
