Financial influencer Ramit Sethi has warned homeowners against treating their primary home like an investment, stating that it is often a lifestyle choice, not a high-return asset. This advice was shared on an Instagram post by Sethi, author of the best-selling book "I Will Teach You to Be Rich". The list included items such as unnecessary extended warranties and expensive credit cards with rewards programs. However, Eric Roberge, founder and CEO of financial advisory firm Beyond Your Hammock, said that while houses gain value over time, inflation also rises during these years, the actual return on a single-family home is only around 1%. Despite these warnings, buying a home can still be a smart financial decision as long as you can afford ongoing expenses.
