The Group of Seven (G7) allies are meeting amid concerns over the unpredictable US presidency and ongoing wars in Ukraine and Iran. France's army chief, Brigitte Gautautaut, criticised the US for its unpredictability, stating it was negatively affecting allies' interests and security. The meeting, which began as six in 1950, is seen as a departure from tradition of a consensus-oriented approach to the group's core issues. The allies are seeking greater clarity on the U.S. and Israeli military operations against Iran and whether any diplomatic channel exists to end the conflict. Negotiations to end Russia's war in Ukraine have stalled and European officials fear the US could push Ukraine into an unfavourable peace deal ahead of the US's mid-magnificent mid-November elections.
