A message carved into the shoe of the Evergreen High School shooter, Desmond Holly, who killed two students and then himself at the school last year, indicates that he was deeply entrenched in online extremist networks and his radicalization was central to his attack. The message likely refers to Elliot Rodger, a 22-year-old man who killed six people in Isla Vista, California, in 2014. The details of the incident were revealed in a report released by the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, which also included 664 pages of witness accounts and deputies’ reports about the shooting. The shooter also used a photo of Rodger as the profile picture on his social media accounts and showed a deep interest in violence and mass shootings. The FBI was alerted to the attacker two months before the attack but was unable to identify him.
