California State Parks chief ranger Mike Dippel discovered that the calla lilies at Garrapata State Park were illegally cut down overnight. The incident occurred at Calla Lily Valley, a coastal ravine in Garrapeta State Park on the north end of Big Sur, where the flowers regularly rise on social media platforms. Dipel visited the site himself and found bushes with cropped stems, which were removed from the flowers. It is unclear who the culprits are or when the flowers were cut, but Dipple suggested that the nonnative plant, which is considered an invasive plant in California, may have influenced the act. A California code prohibits anyone from cutting, disturbing or otherwise mutilating any plants within a state park without official authorization.
