Why Miami Ohio should — and shouldn't — make March Madness after first loss

After Miami (Ohio) suffered its first loss of the season, the RedHawks lost to Massachusetts in the opening round of the MAC tournament. While their 31-1 record indicates they should be a contender for March Madness, the MAC's automatic bid may not be the case without this. Former Auburn coach Bruce Pearl suggested that Miami (Omid) isn't worthy of an at-large spot. Miami's athletic director, David Sayler, responded by calling Pearl's analysis "awful" and accusing him of disrespecting the team. Despite these challenges, the NCAA Tournament selection committee has never left out a team with less than four losses. Despite this, Miami's current strength of schedule ranking 269th and a KenPom rating of 93, the team is considered one of the worst in Division I.
