Democrat Analilia Mejia is expected to win the election to fill New Jersey Gov. Mikie Sherrill's former House seat in New Jersey's 11th Congressional District, marking another significant boost for progressives in the party's direction ahead of the midterms. This follows a trend of progressive victories, including those from Evanston Mayor Daniel Biss (D) and Illinois Lt. Gov. Juliana Stratton (D), who also won her primary for the open Illinois Senate seat, and former Rep. Tom Malinowski (D-N.J.) were both praised for their performances in the primary by the pro-Israel American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) and New Jersey Democratic strategist Julie Roginsky, who worked on a super PAC supporting former Rep.-Tommalowski’s bid. Despite some recent victories, Mejejia‘s surprise primary win was largely due to AIPAC’s involvement in attacking a more moderate candidate.
