The Alaska Senate has passed a spending plan that includes a $1,000 dividend per eligible Alaskan and a $150 energy relief check dependent on war-driven oil prices. The House is set to vote on changes to the plan, which includes a reduction in the size of the Permanent Fund dividend from the House's figure of $1.500 per eligible person. The Senate also reduced one-time funding for Alaska schools, leaving more room for infrastructure maintenance and construction projects in the capital budget. The spending bills are the only ones that must pass before the legislative session ends later this month. If the House fails to agree to Senate changes, a conference committee will be appointed to resolve differences between the proposed plans.
