Meas-rubella (MR) vaccination is crucial in protecting children and communities, particularly in preventing outbreaks from escalating into large measles outbreaks like that in Unakoti district, Tripura. The public health response to measles outbreaks in Gwalior and Morena districts of Madhya Pradesh in Q1 2026 highlighted the importance of this type of vaccination. The district health administration and frontline workers identified families not connected to health services or new migratory settlements as outbreaks spread, revealing how closely disease follows exclusion. The WHO team supported rapid outbreak response, including measles-Rubella vaccination for children between nine months and 10 years, and additional MR vaccine doses given to all children aged nine and ten years. In March 2026, a surge in measles cases brought down one each case each in both Gawior and morena districts, bringing the number of outbreaks down to one.
