A rare sea turtle, identified as one of the world's rarest species, washed up on a beach near Galveston, Texas, covered in living organisms and in need of help. The Gulf Center for Sea Turtle Research (GCSTR) found the turtle lethargic and weighed down by epibionts, organisms that attach themselves to other living creatures. Her shell and body were also covered in barnacles, algae, and sediment, suggesting she may have been struggling for some time. The turtle was transported to the Houston Zoo for an emergency veterinary visit before being transported to its rehabilitation hospital. The GCSTR's work is funded through donations.
