A pack of endangered Mexican wolves was released into the wild in the northern Mexican state of Durango after a 50-year absence from the wild. The collaboration between Mexico and the United States led to the reintroduction of the Mexican wolf (Canis lupus baileyi) under the Saving Animals from Extinction (SAFE) program. The Ministry of the Environment and Natural Resources (Semarnat) facilitated the return of the four wolves to the forest community of El Tarahumar and Bajíos del Tarahahar. The wolves will remain in a pre-release enclosure under human care to allow them to adapt to the environment before their release into wild.
