Wisconsin's population growth in 2025 was slowed by 63% in 2025 and by 65% in Milwaukee County, according to U.S. Census Bureau data. International migration to the state was cut by more than half and overall population growth slowed in 2025. The decrease in international migration was largely due to the decrease in migration from abroad. The decline is attributed to a shift in immigration policy by the Trump administration, which has taken a hardline stance against illegal and legal immigration and expanded deportation efforts. The Census Bureau also reported that every state saw declines in net international migration from 2024 to 2025. While international migration decreased in 2025, domestic migration increased by slightly, slightly, in the same period as the previous year.
