A jury has convicted San Jose woman, Shahin Gheblehshenas, of three felony child endangerment counts in the 2023 drownings of 16-month-old Lilian Hanan and 18-month old Payton Cobb at her Almaden home daycare. The case was concluded after a month-long trial, which also included a near-drowning of a third child. Gheeblehshensas was not home when the children got into an unsecured backyard swimming pool, but had been accused of negligence for several related actions that morning. Her daughter and co-defendant, Nina Fathizadeh, pleaded guilty to the same charges and were criminally charged 11 days later. The daycare license was also suspended and $11,000 fined by state regulators.
