The victim of the shooting at Old Dominion University was identified as Lt. Col. Brandon Shah, a military science professor and ROTC instructor, who served several tours in the Middle East. The shooter, 36-year-old Mohamed Bailor Jalloh, was previously convicted in a terrorism case involving ISIS.
