The optical and quantum communications group at MIT's Lincoln Laboratory delivered real-time images during the NASA Artemis II mission. Group leader Bryan Robinson described the experience as a career highlight. The system was pitched to NASA in 2013 and four years later, they developed the laser technology that enhances communication and data sharing at their Lincoln Laboratory in Lexington. The laser communication was used in place of radio communications during the mission. The team monitored the system around the clock while NASA operated the mission, and watched as it survived launch and powered on eight hours later.
