Adam Bied, a 40-year-old man from Reading, Massachusetts, has been sentenced to eight months in prison and two years of supervised release for illegally importing over 100 endangered and protected animal parts into the United States. Bied pleaded guilty to two counts of conspiracy to smuggle goods, specifically illegally imported wildlife parts, along with two charges of violating the Lacey Act. He was ordered to pay a $75,000 fine to fund wildlife enforcement efforts. The parts Bied imported were protected under multiple endangered species laws. Bies was caught after he sold two illegally imported leopard skulls to an undercover federal agent and falsely claimed that he had purchased them legally.
