A family fishing trip turned into a rare encounter when a charter boat hooked a 10-foot great white shark about a mile off the Florida coast. Donovan Smith and his father, Judd Smith, helped reel in the shark during a lengthy struggle. The incident occurred during the trip operated by Fishing Headquarters. Great white sharks are known to migrate along the East Coast particularly during cooler months, particularly for those with the University of Miami's shark research and conservation program. The animal was released as it is a protected species.
