An Anchorage Assembly is considering a formal ban on the intentional feeding of wildlife and birds of prey. The proposal comes with the potential for fines for individuals who intentionally feed wildlife, as well as those who negligently leave out food and garbage that may attract them. The law is supported by Mayor Suzanne LaFrance and includes a $250 fine for the first offense and $500 for subsequent offenses. The potential law could result in conflicts with people and pets, the spread of wildlife disease and behavioral changes. While feeding on its own is discouraged, it is not strictly illegal.
