Nintendo has announced that physical and digital Switch 2 games will start to cost different amounts starting in May 2026. This means consumers will pay a premium just to own a physical game card. The first game with this change will be the upcoming game, Yoshi and the Mysterious Book, which costs $60 if you buy it digitally. Nintendo claims this change reflects different costs associated with producing and distributing each format and offers players more choice in how they can buy and play Nintendo games. However, publishers often follow Nintendo's lead on pricing. The RAM crisis, Nintendo's need to source the flash storage for games of various sizes is likely to be a major issue. It is unclear if Nintendo will increase prices for any other self-published game-key cards.
