N.J. school district threatened with lawsuit over how it protects transgender students

The Thomas More Society, a law firm that recently won before the U.S. Supreme Court, has threatened to sue a Bergen County school district unless it removes privacy protections for transgender students. Attorneys for the Westwood Regional School District have sent a letter demanding that it rescinds a policy barring teachers and other employees from outing transgender students to their parents and guardians. This is the first time the conservative religious public interest law firm has placed such a notice in New Jersey. The Thomasmore Society plans to challenge other school districts following their victory in the Supreme Court. However, some have raised concerns about efforts targeting privacy protections, particularly those of the ACLU-NJ.
