Taiwan's representative to the U.S. is trying to keep China's threat to Taiwan front of mind in MAGA foreign policy, warning that Beijing's "threat is active" at the Heritage Foundation’s Miami Security Forum. Despite intelligence agencies stating that China is not planning a military invasion in 2027, Ambassador Alexander Tah-Ray Yui stated that this does not mean the People's Republic of China (PRC) is increasing its capabilities to threaten Taiwan by force. Yui also warned that the energy crisis in the Strait of Hormuz, triggered by President Trump's war against Iran, underscores Taiwan's vulnerability. He emphasized that Taiwan is committed to maintaining peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait, the 100-mile-wide maritime passage shared with China. The conference was largely focused on combating drug cartels and boxing out China as part of the Trump's strategy in the Western Hemisphere, while the war on Iran focuses America's military on the Middle East.
