Google has begun rolling out the March core update, the first broad core update of the year, and it is expected to take up to two weeks. This update is designed to surface more relevant content from all types of sites. It arrives two days after the March spam update, which completed within 20 hours. The December core update was the most recent broad update, ending on December 29. Google's John Mueller explained that core updates don't follow a single deployment mechanism and require multiple components, which can require step-by-step rollouts rather than a single release. The 2 MB crawl limit Google published earlier this year is not permanent and may change as the web evolves. Google’s Gary Illyes and Martin Splitt also discussed page weight growth and crawling on a recent Search Off the Record podcast episode.
