Northern Illinois spared worst of power bill spike

The average home electricity bill in Northern Illinois is $140 per month, far lower than the roughly $197 per month paid in central and southern parts of the state, according to Heatmap News data. While power bills have increased across the state in the past, they have hit some areas harder than others, which could indicate statewide anger over energy prices. This increase in costs is leading to legislation at the national and state levels, with Springfield lawmakers considering provisions of the POWER Act to regulate data center energy use. Nantucket County, Massachusetts, San Francisco County, California, and Nobles County, Minnesota had the highest estimated average monthly electric bills in the continental U.S.
