Timothée Chalamet's Marty Supreme, a true story about legendary ping pong player Marty Reisman, has been nominated for Best Actor in the film. The film, which is set in 1952, is inspired by Reisman's exploits in the sporting world and beyond. The Oscar nomination is one of nine for the film ahead of the 98th Academy Awards. Reisman was an exceptional table tennis player who won 22 major tournaments between 1946 and 2002. Despite the film's fictional origins, Reisman insisted that he had no involvement in the making of Marty Supreme. The cast and crew of the film, including Ryan Safdie, have also been recognised for their efforts.
