The Connecticut Nickel per Nip program, which charges 5 cents for every purchase of a nip bottle, has exceeded $22 million in payouts to cities and towns over its four-year lifespan. This includes over $15,000 each to East Windsor and Windsor Locks for the latest reporting period. The program, in place since October 2021, generated $2.4 million across all Connecticut cities and districts from October 2025 to March 2026. The funds are used for environmental purposes such as community clean ups by non-profit organizations, street sweeper purchases, food composting programs, and even more importantly for recycling.
