The San Diego Unified School District has unanimously approved agreements allowing all staff members who would otherwise be laid off an opportunity to accept new positions within the district. The board also approved cutting 221 classified positions, with only 133 currently occupied and 88 vacant. The agreements stipulate that employees will still be subject to layoffs if they do not meet the minimum requirements for a job. The tentative agreements will be implemented between April 22 and May 1. The district has previously announced the cuts of over 200 jobs and plans to add 86 classified jobs.
