By Sarah Jane Weaver
Published on March 26, 2026.
Richard Reeves, president of the American Institute for Boys and Men, discusses the challenges facing boys and men in education, mental health, and social issues. Reeves sees a significant decline in educational and mental health outcomes for boys, but acknowledges that men are not quite sure what their place in society is. He suggests that "father figures" can provide a lift for men and boys. Reeves also notes that college enrollment is declining, and the suicide rate among young men has risen by about 30%, and there is a four times greater loss of life to suicide among men than among women. Reeves believes that both men and women should be able to reach their full potential to a good community.
