Thailand's Phimai National Museum has discovered a 1,300-year-old gold treasure under a sandstone statue in the Wat Thammachak Sema Ram temple complex. The discovery was made while crews were digging a drainage ditch near the statue of the reclining Buddha. They discovered 33 ancient ornaments of gold, silver, and bronze in a ceramic container. The Phimaedan National Museum is preserving these finds for further study and conservation. The finds, which depict rare repoussé metal sheets depicting Buddha and intricate artistry, are being cataloged by the museum. The find is believed to be part of a ritual offering from the Dvaravati period.
