A seal pup was rescued from a discarded fishing net that had become lodged in its neck by a volunteer from St. Mary's Island Wildlife Conservation Society in England. The rescue team had to wait until the tide came in to reach the seal pup, which was only a few months old. The fishing gear can be fatal to the seal pups if they cannot free themselves, and no damage was caused to the pup. The conservation society has previously dealt with similar cases of seal pup being entangled in the fishing gear, but noted that they require special care.
