Dubai's tourism industry reels from 'brutal' impact of war

The US-Israel war with Iran has significantly impacted Dubai's tourism industry, with visitor numbers plummeting and local businesses struggling. Restaurants that rely heavily on tourists have seen revenues fall by more than 50%, while others have seen declines of 70% to 80%. Natasha Sideris, founder of Tashas hospitality group, has had to cut salaries by 30% for all staff, and has already shut down some outlets temporarily. The entire tourism ecosystem, including hotels, travel agencies, transport companies, and airlines, is also feeling the strain. The conflict, which began on 28 February, has disrupted air travel across the region and resulted in 11 deaths and 185 injuries across the UAE. Dubai International Airport handled 95.2 million travellers last year.
