Ahead of Greek social media ban, parents desperate to separate children from phones

Greek parents are increasingly trying to separate their children from social media, with some believing they have reached their limits. The Greek government has already banned mobile phones in schools and established parental control platforms to limit teenagers’ screen time. An opinion poll by ALCO showed about 80% of respondents approved of a social media ban. Concerns about the negative impact of social media on teenagers, particularly those of primary school age, have been raised by the head of the National Organization for ​the Prevention and Treatment of Addiction (N.Efstathiou). The Greek Safer Internet Centre in Athens saw calls to support cyberbullying more than doubled between 2024 and 2025.
