University of Pittsburgh engineering students, along with the Panther Amateur Radio Club, joined eight universities from around the world to track Artemis II's Orion spacecraft. The students are part of a major project for NASA, specifically as one of eight chosen universities to help track the spacecraft's return to Earth. They are using a specific process to copy the low-strength signal the Artemis II spacecraft transmits, which they hope to find based on how fast the spacecraft is moving back to Earth and see how it changes based on its speed. The team will have two weeks to complete their findings and send them to NASA. The mission was described by faculty members as a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
