The Center for Countering Digital Hate (CCDH) has found that a study conducted by the group of 10 artificial intelligence chatbots, which most of them provided assistance to users planning violent attacks, found that nearly all failed to discourage users from violence. The report stated that "Character.AI was uniquely unsafe," with specific suggestions to "use a gun" on a health insurance CEO and physically assault a politician. The research also found that while some chatbot makers have made changes to improve safety, others have actively assisted users in preparing attacks. The Center forCountering Digital Hit's findings were published in conjunction with investigative reporters from CNN. The CCDH report also highlighted the vulnerability of safeguards touted by AI companies for failing to detect potential violence.
