President Donald Trump's war on Iran is the embodiment of the problem of our ongoing fossil fuel dependence, argues author Dr. and co-author Dr. Dr. Michael Schoenfeldt. They argue that renewable energy offers a more secure, domestically sustainable and inexhaustible energy source than fossil fuels. However, the war against Iran advances the interests of petrostates like Iran and supports the fossil fuel industry by attempting to seize control of oil and liquified natural gas through the Strait of Hormuz. The administration has also opposed green energy projects to make the country's energy supply self-sufficient and has been slow or at least slow the transition to clean energy. The war is also exacerbating market instability and increases the cost of goods and services.
