Hamza Khatatbeh, 17, was convicted of second-degree murder in the 2023 fatal stabbing of Sycamore 17-year-old Kaleb McCall. His defense lawyers argued that he acted in self-defense after being bullied by older teenagers. However, Associate Judge Stephanie Klein denied these requests, stating that the sentencing range for second-denial is significantly less than first-degree homicide. Khataratbeh is expected to be sentenced on May 27.
