The announcement was made due to a lawsuit filed by a preservationist group against the Trump administration. The president defended the ballroom plans, describing it as "almost a twin to the white House" and "the greatest ballroom anywhere in the world". The National Capital Planning Commission is set to vote on the plans in April.
