Man Who Fled NY After Bay Shore Killing Sentenced To 25 To Life: DA

Darwin Josue Maldonado Vanegas, 32, has been sentenced to 25 years in prison for the second-degree murder of 24-year-old Daniel Nunez-Hernandez in 2025. The victim was found dead at a Bay Shore home with gunshot wounds to his chest and arm and investigators recovered two 9mm shell casings near his body. After the killing, Maldonada Vanega fled New York and withdrew significant amounts of U.S. currency from his bank account before traveling to Atlantic City, New Jersey, where he stopped using his cellphone and obtained a second phone. He was arrested in May 2025 in Miami.
