The Trump administration has released new renderings of a proposed 250-foot triumphal arch, intended to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the United States. The arch's top will feature two eagles and a 60-foot golden winged angel, identified by President Donald Trump as Lady Liberty. The renderings were submitted to the U.S. Commission of Fine Arts (CFA) to begin the review process required for large construction projects in the District of Columbia. While Trump previously claimed that projects such as the White House East Wing Modernization did not require outside federal approval, the location and size of the proposed triumphal ar falls within the jurisdiction of CFA, as well as the National Capital Planning Commission (NCPC). Three veterans of the Vietnam War argued that the arch would dishonor their military and foreign service and the legacy of their comrades and other veterans buried at Arlington National Cemetery.
